Glisten & Glow H K Girl Topcoat | My Holy Grail

*Part PR Sample.
Hi loves,
Today I have my long overdue post to share - no nail art tonight!
I have been meaning to do this post for a while now, it got delayed thanks to the post pinching a package whilst I had run out of H K Girl :O but all is good now!
If you have been following me for a year or so now.. you would know I was devoted to Seche Vite, nothing compared and that was my ultimate baby lol. When my lovely friend Jill asked if I wanted to review her products I was super excited, H K Girl Topcoat is talked about hugely in the nail community and so many people love and adore it. I wasn't convinced and thought pffft surely not? How wrong I was!
When the little bottle arrived I could not wait to test it and try it out, I fell in love instantly and Seche sat on the back burner from that day. I got so sad when I ran out of the 15ml bottle and had to resort back to SV, I literally had no feel of doing my nails because it sucked!
As shown above I now have 3 bottles of H K Girl, I wanted to include them all so people can get a good look at the sizes etc!
My little 15ml is empty atm because I am using the 2.5 oz. but I have the lovely 2 oz refill ready - I won't be running out anytime soon that's for sure!
What makes H K Girl Topcoat so special?
I know many people have their chosen topcoat and why they love it and so on, I also know that I am not the only one who gets hacked off at SV.
Whilst Seche Vite is fast drying, it gets thick when its nearing halfway used, thick so bad painting your nails can be a total mess. Along with that it shrinks!! Oh boy, the shrinking can be horrid, imagine a freshly painted mani looking lovely - an hour later its all weird looking and nasty shrunk that there literally was no point of you wasting any time painting your nails in the first place. Ugh. This was possibly my main hatred, I often coated the Seche up to my cuticle in order to try and prevent the shrinking -.-
H K Girl does not shrink! Fabulous!! It does thicken slightly near the right end of the bottle but not anywhere near SV.

I really have no faults with this topcoat, the drying time is perfect - pretty much as quick as SV if not a second or two slower. Along with that the shine is wowza, I love that.. But the main biggest point is it does NOT smudge my nail art. This is one of the key factors for me along with the fast drying... because with doing nail art mostly all the time I have to have a topcoat that works and doesn't ruin my work.

Fast drying is a huge must which is why I was so devoted to SV at one point, being a mum of two little kids and constantly using my hands in some way - I cant be sitting around waiting an hour or even longer in some cases, plus I am so fricking impatient!

H K Girl is only 2 Free, it contains DBP. If this is an issue I would advice not to buy this topcoat.
Would I ever change or go back to SV?
Whilst I have tried other topcoats throughout the time I have had HK Girl, I wouldn't change. I adore this topcoat and will continue to use it as long as it is around.

  1. I've been using Poshé for quite a while and am pretty happy with it. But I have heard so many good things about H K Girl that I am defenitely trying this next :)

  2. Like you, I am devoted to H K Girl. Love that stuff!

  3. I still like my SV and Poshe. I have the HK and have used it. It seemed to take a long time to dry. I guess I just don't see that much of a difference. Reading your review now I am going to go back and try it again. Perhaps I was expecting too much at the time and I need to re-evaluate. Thanks.

  4. I am so intrigued by this product now!! Thank you for sharing your review; I've been desperately searching for a good top coat for what seems like ages upon ages. I will have to check this one out!

  5. I bought some HK topcoat a few months ago but wasn't fully convinced until my SV started to harden forcing me to use the former. I don't think I could go back to SV now, HK has lots of the same qualities without the horrid smell!

  6. I have it and I love it. But unfortunately I experienced some smearing of my stamping with it. For me, KB Shimmer Clearly On Top is the best for topping stamping and HK is perfect for all other cases.

  7. How do you feel about INM out the door?

  8. I'm a convert to HK Girl from SV.

  9. Hmmm...interesting and impressive indeed. I am so curious about this so i will try it for myself. I wanna know how it works.

  10. I've known about this top coat for a while now, and despite being a Seche kind of girl, I knew this was what I needed. I've read many posts on it and everyone on IG is raving about it. Living in Italy means I often can't or won't buy stuff because that means high shipping costs and at least 30-40 days waiting(hoping) for the goods to get here. But I will get one bottle, oh yes I will!

  11. I've been a SV fan but am reading so many good things about HK Girl that I *need* to give it a try!

  12. How do you like the larger bottle/brush? I am an HK Girl convert but don't love the small bottle/brush. I'm thinking the large one will be perfect for me. What's been your experience with it? Thanks in advance :)

    1. The larger brush does take some getting used to, the length from handle to brush itself was a total woah moment but easy to work with after a few times using it and I just love it. It's lovely and soft to apply over the smaller bottle I find. xx

  13. Great post! I have the same question as Kellie--is the large round bottle a good choice? I need to buy more asap and want to get that one, but I'd like to know if the brush is good and whether or not it starts to dry up too soon. Please and thank you!!

    1. I just replied to Kellies comment if you want to check it :) xx

Id love it if you left me a comment so I can read what you think. :)
